ACK on this one, you could even copy what spice-gtk is doing which allows
to run autogen.sh outside of builddir:

srcdir=`dirname $0`
test -z "$srcdir" && srcdir=.

if [ -z "$NOCONFIGURE" ]; then
    "$srcdir"/configure $@
fi
